Prestashop Testimonials Manager Module

Introduction

The Prestashop e-commerce platform allows users to leave feedback on individual products by leaving comments on each product. However, there is no method for users to leave feedback regarding the overall service of the shop. This module is designed to provide that functionality to store owners who wish to have this extra functionality. The module allows users to submit a testimonial to be displayed on the store (subject to the store owners approval). It also optionally supports reCaptcha as method of combating form spam.

It is Free

This module is free and requires no registration to download. The module was created by myself because I had a store which required it. I am giving it away because in my opinion the more free modules providing useful functionality the more likely Prestashop is to succeed. Which is a good thing.

Installation

Copy Module to your store's module directory

Download the module. Unpack the module into your prestashop's module directory. It should create a folder called blocktestimonial. See the screenshot below for how it might look on a wamp installation.

Enable

From within your administration section of your store, go to the modules page. Scroll down to the block section and choose the module entitled Customer Testimonials v1.3. Click install. This should install and enable the module for you.

Check the module is displayed correctly

By default the module is displayed in the left hand column position (known to the system as hook_left). You should see the module displayed in the left hand side of your stores page. You can move it to the right hand side of your if you prefer. This is done using the postions function of your store in the same way as any other block module.

Optionally add a reCaptcha

If you find that you are getting lots of "non testimonials" being added via your form, you can use a reCaptcha to try and filter out automated submissions by spammers from the genuine testimonial submitters. You will need to sign up for a reCaptcha account. Once you have your recapture account details you will need the public and private keys. Make a note of these. Now go to your shop's backoffice and go to the modules section and choose the testimonials module. Click configure. You should see this screen:
Enable the reCaptcha and enter your public and private keys from your reCaptcha account into the appropriate boxes. Click Save. You should now have a reCaptcha on your add testimonials form. Probably worth adding a test testimonial yourself to make sure it works but then you don't need me to tell you that!

Administer the testimonials

By default a new testimonial is not displayed on your store. This is done to allow you to ensure that all testimonials are suitable for display basically a safety measure to ensure no spam or other undesirable testimonials are displayed without you noticing. You can manage your testimonials from your administration section of your store. Go to modules then scroll down to the block modules section select the Customers Testimonials module and click "configure". Near the bottom of the page uou will see the list of the testimonials for you to manage.

Here you can enable, disable, delete or update the text (for correcting spelling mistakes). Check the checkbox next to the testimonial you wish to edit, this will activate a list of option buttoins. Use these buttons to manage your testmionials.

Optionally configure the number of testimonials

As you testimonials grow in number you can configure the amount that are displayed to your customers on one page. By default 10 are shown before the customer has to click to see the next 10. You can configure this amount altering the "# Testimonials Per Page" value and clicking Save.
